“We, as a country with one of the richest cultures in the world, find it disastrous that we do not have a space for presenting our artistic activity and our political thought, especially at the largest private university in the world.” – Stavros Xarchakos

The American Symphony Orchestra's program presents important works from the international repertoire, offering a wide range of expressive moods and a symphonic palette full of color and intensity. Endopsis (Introspection) by Stavros Xarchakos, based on a poem by G. Seferis, holds a special place. It is a symphonic piece with a unique atmosphere and introspection, highlighting the composer's poetic sensitivity and orchestral dramaturgical ability. The tour begins and ends in New York, with stops in Athens and a number of other Greek cities.

“With Bernstein’s baton,” Stavros Xarchakos returns to Greece and conducts the American Symphony Orchestra at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. ("Akropolis" newspaper, 1980)

An issue of the newspaper "Akropolis" includes an article about Stavros Xarchakos’ bid for an Oscar award, for his music for the film "Girls in the Sun".

A letter which, following meetings with David Diamond, Juilliard president Peter Mennin, and John V. Lindsay, announces the formation of a committee for the organization of a benefit concert, to be conducted by Stavros Xarchakos, on Sunday, 2 December 1979, at Avery Fisher Hall, with the aim of establishing a scholarship at Juilliard in memory of Dimitris Mitropoulos. Leonard Bernstein is invited to attend and deliver a brief address in memory of Mitropoulos, in his capacity as Honorary President of the event.

Leonard Bernstein, a leading American conductor, composer, and educator, was one of the most charismatic figures of 20th-century music. In 1978, seeking to deepen his knowledge of harmony, composition, and orchestral conducting, Stavros Xarchakos continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied for three years under the composer David Diamond and for two years with Bernstein, receiving instruction in score analysis and conducting numerous concerts. The poster of Bernstein’s concerts with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall in June 1979 reflects the musical environment of the era, within which Xarchakos shaped his remarkable artistic path.
