LEONARD BERNSTEIN, A CHARISMATIC FIGURE OF 20th-CENTURY MUSIC

LEONARD BERNSTEIN, A CHARISMATIC FIGURE OF 20th-CENTURY MUSIC

Leonard Bernstein, a leading American conductor, composer, and educator, was one of the most charismatic figures of 20th-century music. In 1978, seeking to deepen his knowledge of harmony, composition, and orchestral conducting, Stavros Xarchakos continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied for three years under the composer David Diamond and for two years with Bernstein, receiving instruction in score analysis and conducting numerous concerts. The poster of Bernstein’s concerts with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall in June 1979 reflects the musical environment of the era, within which Xarchakos shaped his remarkable artistic path.
